Education is not merely acquirement of facts but also of values which help us improve the different facets of mankind. St. Andrew’s College, Gorakhpur, named after Saint Andrew, one of the first twelve disciples of Jesus Christ, had a humble beginning in 1828 as a Mission School by the Church Missionary society to provide education to the society.
The foundation of the Church Missionary Society (C.M.S.) in 1699 was consequential to the Evangelical Revival, with the role of great grandfather of Indian Evangelical Revival being ably played by the Rev. Charles Simeon. He was the Fellow of King's College and the Vicar of the Holy Trinity College, Cambridge.
I believe in upholding high standards with an absolute commitment to strive, to understand and improve the educational process using team strategies while wholly centering on student achievement. Being committed to growth and seeing how it makes the world better is one of the greatest joys in life.
The college, established for over 124 years now has entered the quasquicentennial anniversary and continues to serve the nation by emancipating the dormant potential of the youth and by encouraging them towards overall excellence, drawing its inspiration from the great verse of the Holy Bible “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:21. This forms the motto of the college and has been its guiding principle, as we seek to awaken in our students a sense of intrinsic worth, based on God-given potential and a commitment to respect the dignity and uniqueness of each individual, amidst racial, cultural, linguistic and religious diversity.
Over the years, we have witnessed the steady growth of this institution in all the fields of academic endeavours. The progress of the college has its foundation in the grace and blessings of the Almighty and the vision and hard work of its leadership and all who were part of laying such a strong foundation.
The college is blessed to have a well- qualified, talented, dedicated and competent faculty to mentor students, to guide their academic experiences, build critical skills and cultivate their creative thinking with the aim of social transformation with justice for all. The college provides various facilities to the students for physical fitness through games, sports and various activities for personality development and building up of leadership skills through participation in several extra-curricular activities periodically organized by the college. Our non-teaching staff also provides a loyal support in various activities.
It has been our earnest endeavour to not only promote the intellectual and physical abilities but also raise the emotional intelligence of the children. Values of peace, love, justice, honesty, cleanliness, and social concern, quest for learning, integrity and creativity are assimilated in the policy and actions of this institution which help in the holistic growth of every child.
“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” On this note, I would like to appreciate every member who has contributed towards the growth and glory of this institution and wish all the very best for the upcoming endeavours.
